HRD+ Statement Regarding the Attack on Worshippers in Herat

The reports of the attack on defenseless and innocent worshippers in the city of Herat during their prayers has shocked all human rights defenders. The victims include men, women, and children who had no refuge but in the Almighty, yet the perpetrators, the killers of the people of Afghanistan, showed no mercy towards them.
This is not the first time that our Afghan citizens, especially those of Shia and Hazara origin, have been specifically targeted by terrorist groups. This organized series of crimes continues to escalate and has robbed the people of their peace.
The HRD+ findings shows that the de facto administration of Taliban has not taken any constructive actions to ensure the security of this large group of our citizens. Furthermore, the silence of the authorities regarding investigations, pursuit, and security measures allows terrorist groups to boldly continue these crimes.
We urgently demand that effective political and legal structures at the international level to hold the de facto administration of Taliban accountable for the elements, factors, and consequences of these inhumane crimes and prevent them from whitewashing further atrocities.
We call on national and international human rights organizations to organize supportive actions for the survivors of these incidents.
We urge human rights activists in Herat to identify the victims and organize support campaigns for them in solidarity with other human rights defenders worldwide.
We demand that human rights structures and reporters in matters of minority rights, freedom of belief, freedom of expression, and cultural freedoms in the United Nations and other international institutions to reflect on these horrific events in their reports to better understand the realities of our society.
The HRD+ is fully committed to aligning with the provisions of this statement.
